Matt Baker is an award-winning director, actor, and theatre critic who made his professional debut in The Lion King in Sydney in 2004. He has a Bachelor of Performing & Screen Arts from UNITEC, a Postgraduate Diploma in Art from the University of Auckland, and a Master of Arts from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London, as well as an 80-week Meisner technique course. He began writing as a theatre critic in 2011, and made his professional directorial debut with the critically acclaimed Auckland premiere of Gary Henderson’s Mo & Jess Kill Susie in 2014.

Matt is also a script advisor and dramaturg, and is the inaugural New Zealand member of the International Association of Theatre Critics. He has also made appearances in shows such as “Sweet Tooth”, “The Luminaries”, and “Shortland Street”.
