Eleanor Bishop is a director and writer who makes contemporary theatre and opera, and film with a focus on feminism and social justice. Her work has been presented, co-produced, or commissioned by 40 theatres and festivals in
New Zealand, Australia, the UK and the United States. Working in Aotearoa-New Zealand, she has been described as “one of New Zealand’s most daring, intelligent, and political directors” (The Theatre Times). She works closely with writer/performer Karin McCracken
as EBKM. They are the winners of the Bruce Mason Playwriting Award in 2022. Recent works include The Strangest of Angels (NZ Opera), Chekhov’s The Seagull – a new online version (Auckland Theatre Company) & Yes Yes Yes, a show about consent for young people
(Auckland Live & NZ touring).
Eleanor holds an MFA in Directing from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, USA where she studied as a John Wells Fellow and a Fulbright Scholar.
